Location: Pelham, New York

Price: $1.98 million

Situated on nearly one acre of land, this recently renovated, multi-story Tudor home in Pelham, New York—a town in Westchester, just north of New York City—offers classic early 20th century living with updated 21st century amenities. Built in 1920, the stately home retains its original architectural features, such as a striking stone and wood exterior and a large portico once used to pick-up and drop-off guests in horse-drawn carriages.

"It was just 1920, right before cars. You would literally pull up in your carriage," described listing agent Sona Davidian of McClellan Sotheby’s International Realty. She added: "The present owner, when he walked up the stairs, he was sold."

Looking at the home’s classic architecture and various amenities on the ground floor where the portico is located, it’s easy to see what the current owner saw. In effect, Ms. Davidian noted this level, which was originally used as the carriage house, has since become the home’s de-facto recreation center with an exercise room, billiard room, utility room and wine cellar.

"It’s one of those rooms where you can sit down, enjoy wine and have a cigar," Ms. Davidian said of the climate-controlled 2,700-bottle wine-cellar. The room features deep mahogany woodwork and a stained-glass replica of Van Gogh’s "Irises" by the well-known stained glass artist Nasreen Macdonald.

The upper floors, consequentially, feature the home’s original gleaming wood floors alongside crystal lighting fixtures and large windows that brighten the already tonally warm home. Period appropriate touches, such as a welcoming fireplace and splashes of rich wood paneling throughout, only add to this sense of classic ’20s-era luxury living.

"It’s a beautiful stone house and they really don’t make them like that anymore," Ms. Davidian said.

Stats

Resting on nearly an acre of land, the 7,622-square-foot residence has seven bedrooms, four recently renovated full bathrooms and two partial bathrooms. Additionally, the home includes a separate living area that was once used as the maids’ living quarters but today is ideal for either guests or an au pair.

Amenities

In addition to the aforementioned wine cellar, exercise room, and billiard room, the large residence also includes a media room, a sunroom, a contemporary kitchen with modern appliances, and a library. The property’s large acreage means their space for a pool, should a homeowner desire to build one.

Neighborhood Notes

Located within walking distance of the local elementary school, high school and train station, Ms. Davidian noted the home is ideally situated. Furthermore, she added the neighborhood is known for its safety and good school district. It’s about 45 minutes from New York City.
