There’s a certain cache in living in a luxury building New York City, but that cache goes up exponentially when the apartment is at the Plaza Hotel.

It just so happens that a three-bedroom, four-and-a-half bathroom apartment was listed at the Plaza Private Residences Monday for $25 million.

This isn’t the first time this apartment has been up for sale: Insurance tycoon Barry Kaye and his wife, Carole, first listed their Plaza pad in 2014 for $49.5 million. When it failed to move, they dropped the price to $35 million later that year. And 2016 saw another price cut, to $29.5 million. Requests for comment from Mr. Kaye were not immediately returned.

The Kayes bought the apartment in 2008 for $13.6 million, according to public records, so the $25 million asking price would still net them a tidy sum. Corcoran’s Charlie Attias is now handling the listing; he declined to comment for this article.

Once the staterooms of the Plaza Hotel, the apartment has the largest windows in the building, plus 13-foot ceilings, according to the listing. There are also views of Central Park from every room.

Designer Jeffrey Hitchcock is behind the interiors, which are inspired by Chanel, according to the listing, and created with the impressive view in mind.

The apartment features a black-granite floor in the foyer, walls upholstered with silk and suede, Macassar ebony cabinetry, Lalique door handles and many other architectural details.

Venetian plaster was used for the walls in the living room, the listing said, which is done in cream and black. A breakfast room was created with red-lacquered frames holding mercury glass so everyone at the table has a view of the park.

The master suite has his-and-hers walk-in closets, plus a master bath with a white-onyx floor with black-lacquer cabinets, according to the listing.

Residents at the Plaza have access to all the hotel’s amenities, the listing said, including concierge service, a 24-hour doorman, the fitness center, the Guerlain Spa and several restaurants and bars. The Plaza is a city landmark, and residents can roam its gardens, with its fountain and reflecting pools.
