A duplex penthouse in Manhattan’s famed Plaza Hotel owned by Juan Beckmann Vidal, a Mexican billionaire and majority owner of tequila maker José Cuervo, has came onto the market for $34.95 million.

Mr. Beckmann Vidal, 77, and his wife Maria de Jesus Dora Legorreta Santos, bought the three-bedroom residence for $22.54 million in 2008 via a limited liability company, DJ Condo, according to public records and reports.

Over the years, millions of dollars were spent to renovate the home into a "an oasis in the sky," according to the listing with Sotheby’s International Realty, which was posted Monday.

Coincidentally, on the same day, fashion mogul Tommy Hilfiger relisted his Plaza Hotel penthouse for $50 million, a $30-million reduction from the original ask of $80 million in 2013. The new price per square footage came down to $8,264 from $13,223 per square foot.

Mr. Beckmann Vidal’s penthouse commands $8,794 per square foot for its 3,974 square feet of interior living space. But the property also offers a 480-square-foot terrace with clear glass parapet wall overlooking the Central Park, per the listing.

The main floor is dedicated to entertaining, with a gallery, a spacious living room, a formal dining room and a kitchen. High ceilings and glass skylight windows help enhance the already-incredible views, according to the listing.

The upper level has the master bedroom suite, which features a wood burning fireplace, a sitting room and a master bathroom. There are two additional bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a wet bar and a study.

Listing agents Elizabeth L. Sample and Brenda S. Powers of Sotheby’s declined to comment.

Mr. Beckmann Vidal’s family has owned José Cuervo, the world’s largest tequila maker, for 11 generations. He currently serves as chairman of its parent company, Becle, which went public on the Mexican Stock Exchange in February and raised $900 million. His family has an estimated net worth of $4.4 billion, according to Forbes.

An email sent to the company seeking comment wasn’t immediately answered.

In New York, the family owns three apartments in Trump Tower. They almost bought a $46.25-million apartment in 432 Park , but refused to close on the sale due to a "catastrophic water flood." They are suing the developers Macklowe Properties and CIM Group and trying to recover their $11.56 million deposit, according to the New York Post.

The 110-year old iconic Plaza Hotel itself is for sale by its principal owner, India-based Sahara Group.
