Hollywood director and producer Richard Donner—best known for a string of classic blockbusters including "Lethal Weapon," "The Goonies," and the original 1978 "Superman" starring Christopher Reeve—closed on the sale of his Maui, Hawaii, mansion for $16.5 million, listing agent Meghan Clair confirmed to Mansion Global.
Built in 2004, the one-acre retreat—situated on scenic Keawakapu Beach—is composed of a 4,500-square-foot main house that includes panoramic ocean views, two bedrooms, one full bathroom and three halfs, a large great room with a vaulted exposed wood ceiling, a sun room, an airy kitchen, and—of course—a screening room, according to the property listing. Also included: a detached two-bedroom guesthouse complete with its own gym, home office, and beachfront-facing lanai.

The spread—featured in Architectural Digest—initially was listed at $22 million and was reduced to $19.9 million before fetching its current asking price, Ms. Clair, of Coldwell Banker Island Properties, confirmed.
Information on the buyer was not available.
The 86-year-old and his wife, Lauren Shuler Donner, own the Donner’s Co., a production company which has produced several modern action movies, including "Deadpool" and the "X-Men" franchise.
According to reports, the couple also own homes in Beverly Hills and two above the Sunset Strip.
A rep for Donner didn’t immediately return a request for comment.
