The Spanish island where Prince William and then-girlfriend Kate Middleton once slathered themselves in its healing mud has sold for €18 million (US$22.2 million).

A family from Luxembourg has purchased s'Espalmador, an island in the Balearics whose privacy and sandy beaches have attracted a cohort of celebrity vacationers, agents marketing the property confirmed. Over the years, the island has attracted the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge—who were famously photographed there taking a mud bath in 2006—and socialite Paris Hilton.

The sellers, Barcelona-based architect Norman Cinnamond and his sister, Rosy, first put the island near Ibiza on the market for €24 million in 2015, according to news reports at the time. Mr. Cinnamond did not immediately return request for comment.

The siblings reportedly reduced the price of s'Espalmador in 2016 in an effort to attract the local municipality to purchase the land for public use, but a deal was never made.

The island is part of Las Salines Natural Park and though thebuyers reportedly plan to keep it for personal use, local law dictates that its beaches and waterfront remain public. The island’s watchtower is also technically on public land.

A private compound sits on the interior of the island and encompasses two white-painted houses, outbuildings and a small chapel. The beachside residential home is steps from a stretch of beach and boat dock, according to photos with Hamburg, Germany-based listing agents Vladi Private Islands.

In the listing, the agents billed the home as a perfect way to take advantage of Ibiza’s "buzz" while having a sanctuary to retreat to for privacy and solitude.
