Location: Toronto

Price: $8.995 million

On the 60th and 61st floors of the Shangri-La hotel, this apartment is "the epitome of luxury in Toronto," agent Andrew Moresi said.

Architect Giacomo Bianchi is behind the modern redesign of this spacious apartment, which features 20-foot glass windows looking out onto the city.

One wall of the two-story living area is covered by a hand-painted mural of an ancient Greek athlete by the architect’s wife, artist Alessandro Bianchi, which gives off a feeling of power throughout the apartment.

The suite is the largest in the building, Mr. Moresi said, and is "made for entertaining." He added that the current owner, who is in the film industry, has done just that for friends and colleagues during the annual Toronto International Film Festival.

Stats

This three-bedroom, four-bathroom unit has 4,400 square feet of living space.

Amenities

Not only does the giant Greek athlete seem to share in the views, he can also watch movies with residents and guests of this apartment on a custom-made screen that descends from the upper level.

The 20-foot screen and dual projection system turn the space into an instant movie theater, perfect for parties during the famous Toronto International Film Festival. There’s also a Control4 home automation system so the sound, cinema, lighting, electronic solar shading and sound speaker systems can be adjusted at the touch of a button.

The open kitchen is outfitted with Miele appliances from Italy, and the adjacent dining area features a linear gas fireplace. Each bedroom features custom closets, as well as en-suite bathrooms. The Shangri-La has a world-class spa, with a gym, sauna and pool, and the building offers cars that can be reserved ahead of time for residents.

Design pedigree

The apartment boasts dark oak herringbone floors throughout both floors of the apartment, as well as Venetian plaster walls. It has a floating glass staircase above, which hangs a crystal light sphere. The bathrooms are covered in Carrara marble, and have radiant floor heating—definitely a plus during cold Canada winters.

Neighborhood notes

The capital of Ontario, Toronto has the biggest population of any Canadian city. This particular hotel and condo building, completed in 2013, is in the city’s bustling financial district, which is a bonafide shopping destination, but don’t go on weekends: these shops keep banker’s hours.
