A nearly 10,000-square-foot townhouse owned by the late David and Peggy Rockefeller has gone into contract, according to Brown Harris Stevens.

The house, on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, was first listed in June 2017 for $32.5 million, and its most recent asking price was $27 million. Paula del Nunzio, a listing agent for the property from Brown Harris Stevens, confirmed that the house was in contract but has not closed yet. She declined to comment on the price and did not provide any further information.

The house dates back to 1924 and has eight bedrooms, eight full bathrooms and three half bathrooms. The Colonial Revival-stylehome has eight wood-burning fireplaces, a spiral staircase that ascends from the ground floor to the fourth floor and a library, according to the listing.

The 40-foot-wide townhouse has nearly 3,000 square feet of outdoor space, including an extensive garden in the back patio.

The Rockefellers purchased the townhouse in 1948, according to the brokerage. The house was included in the Upper East Side Historic District Extension in 2010.

David Rockefeller, a grandson of oil baron John D. Rockefeller who forged a legacy of his own as a banker and philanthropist, died in March 2017 at the age of 101. Peggy, a conservation activist, died in 1996.

Hudson Pines, David and Peggy Rockefeller’s 75-acre estate in Pocantico Hills in Westchester County, hit the market in September 2017. The 11-bedroom, 15-bathroom (12 full, three half) home is located a mile and a half down the road from The Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture, which was co-founded by Mr. Rockefeller and his daughter Peggy.

Ringing Point, the Rockefellers’ waterfront estate in Mount Desert Island in Maine, sold earlier this month for $19 million. The deed for the 14.5-acre property names the buyer as Ringing Point, LLC, according to public records.
