Did having Taylor Swift as a neighbor help New York Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh quickly find a buyer for his trendy Tribeca loft apartment?

Mr. McDonagh only listed his Franklin Street pad in the Sugar Loaf Condominium for $5.75 million three weeks ago, but it has already gone into contract, listing records show.  The final purchase price, however, won’t be revealed until the sale has closed.

While it’s true that his spacious 2,450-square-foot, three-bedroom loft has many selling points, like exposed brick and timber-beamed ceilings, perhaps the biggest perk is that it’s in the same building as Ms. Swift’s apartment.

While some may not like having  paparazzi permanently parked outside their home, some  fans of the pop star might see it as a small price to pay for the chance to bump into her in the lobby. Ms. Swift bought two side-by-side duplexes at the building in 2014 for just under $20 million from "Lord of the Rings" director Peter Jackson, according to media reports.

Mr. McDonagh's apartment has had some recent renovations, according to the listing, including a brand new open kitchen with Calacatta Gold marble countertops and a breakfast bar. It also has all new floors and lighting.

Property records show that the 27-year-old hockey player from Minnesota, who just had a daughter with his long-term partner Kalee Keys, paid $5.2 million for it in 2014 through RKMMN, LLC. Property records show that Mr. McDonagh took out a mortgage for the unit.

Mr. McDonagh and Ms. Swift aren’t the only famous faces to have lived at the Franklin Street development, which started life as a sugar warehouse in 1882.

"Pirates of the Caribbean" actor Orlando Bloom and "Magic Mike" director Steven Soderbergh have also called it home, according to media reports.
