A private island with a 10-bedroom mansion off the Connecticut coast sold Monday for $21.5 million, according to Joe Piscitelli of Coldwell Banker, the listing agent for the island.
The sellers, "island collectors" Christine and Edmund Stoecklein, who, according to Piscitelli, are relocating to the West Coast, bought the island property in 2003 for $22.3 million. The couple listed the property in late June for $25 million, just $3.5 million over the sale price. Mansion Global could not identify the buyers.
"Yon Comis Island" is located in the Long Island Sound off the coast of Branford, Connecticut, 75 miles from New York City and 19 miles from the Hamptons.

The island occupies just over 7.5 acres of land and contains a mansion equipped with five bathrooms and five half baths. In addition to the 13,100 square-foot main residence, the island has a detached four-bedroom guesthouse, art studio, in-ground pool and fully equipped pool house, tennis court, putting green, rolling green lawn, koi pond, waterfalls, two docks, three beaches and a greenhouse, according to the listing.
The listing agent for the island, Joe Piscitelli of Coldwell Banker, told Mansion Global in June that the island was "the Commander in Chief of the Long Island Sound," referring to the way it is perched above the rest of the Thimbles archipelago.
In an interview just minutes after the closing Monday, Mr. Piscitelli said that a family bought the island because they "love the water," but wish to remain anonymous. Piscitelli added that the "one-of-a-kind island" has been "meticulously maintained and preserved" over the years.

Captain John Jay Phelps, a financier and yachtsman from New Jersey, purchased and developed the island in 1902. Phelps, who renamed the island Yon Comis, is famous for being the first American to sail around the world via the Suez Canal and Cape of Good Hope. Until his death in 1948, Phelps spent his summers in Yon Comis.
