The carriage house once belonging to the famed Grey Gardens estate in East Hampton, New York has hit the market for the first time in 56 years, asking $9.5 million.
Sitting on 1.1 acres of hedged land, the carriage house has five bedrooms and four full bathrooms, featuring tiled floors, a fireplace, French doors and shaded terraces, according to the listing with Sotheby’s International Realty posted earlier this month.

Currently encompassing 3,516 square feet of living space, the house could be expanded to 5,511 square feet under zoning laws, according to the listing.
"The house has the original carriage room that measures 21 feet-by-30 feet with a 10-foot high wainscotted ceiling," said Frank E. Newbold, who is handling the listing with colleague Marilyn Clark. "It has second-story ocean views and also views of the Lily Pond for which the renowned estate address Lily Pond Lane was named."
Outdoors, the house has balconies with water views, a heated 45-foot pool and a detached two-car garage.

Built in 1896, the carriage house used to be part of the Grey Gardens estate, longtime home to "Big" and "Little" Edie Beale, the aunt and first cousin of former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Their life story were documented in the 1975 documentary film "Grey Gardens" and later in a Broadway musical.
The Grey Gardens was sold for $15.5-million last December.
The carriage house was split off as a separate property in 1952 and the current owners purchased it in 1962, according to Mr. Newbold.
"It is now being sold as part of an estate," said Mr. Newbold, who declined to disclose the owners’ identities and how much they paid for the property.
