Gracie Square, a short stretch of street on Manhattan’s Upper East Side—adjacent to East 84th Street and between East End Avenue and the East River—may be getting a lot more exclusive, or should we say, a lot more presidential.

Barack and Michelle Obama have been spotted touring a co-op building—once home to Gloria Vanderbilt—in the enclave, according to The New York Post.

One of the units at the 15-story building went into contract last week, but the Obamas are not the buyers behind the $10 million purchase, said listing broker Matthew D. Hughes of Brown Harris Stevens.

That leaves the former president three units to choose from.

The most expensive unit in the building is asking $15 million. The five-bedroom duplex has three wood-burning fireplaces, a wood-panelled library, a formal dining room, a private elevator vestibule and a terrace, according to the listing. It has been on the market for 99 days, according to Realtor.com. Listing brokers Fredrik Eklund, John Gomes and Jordan Shea of Douglas Elliman did not respond to requests for comment.

The second unit the Obamas could consider is a penthouse asking $12.75 million. The five-bedroom home has a wrap-around terrace, two balconies, four wood-burning fireplaces, classic moldings and a private elevator landing, according to the listing with John Burger of Brown Harris Stevens, who also did not respond to requests for comment. The penthouse has been on the market for roughly two and a half years.

Lastly, a two-bedroom apartment on the sixth floor is asking $3.5 million. Spanning 2,400-square-feet, the unit has a semi-private elevator landing and a living room with floor-to-ceiling decorative paneling. Neither Mr. Hughes or fellow Brown Harris Stevens listing broker Daniella G. Schlisser immediately returned requests for comment about the unit, which has been on the market for 22 days.

But of course these are just the listed units, the well-connected couple could no doubt be taking a look at an off-market unit in the building, too.

Earlier this year, the Obamas purchased a nine-bedroom mansion in Washington, D.C.’s Kalorama neighborhood for $8.1 million.

A spokesman for the Obamas did not respond to requests for comment.
