New Build on Site of Della Reese’s Los Angeles Home Sells for $19.25M

The 11,805-square-feet residence was last listed for $21.9 million in August

The contemporary residence built on the site of the former Bel Air home of Della Reese, a singer and actress who starred in TV drama "Touched by an Angel," was sold for $19.25 million, according to the property’s developer, ANR Signature Collection.

The 11,805-square-foot home came onto the market for $23.5 millionin April after construction was completed the prior month. The price was later dropped to $21.9 million in August.

The sale was closed last week, and the location and views the property boasts helped attract the buyer, according to Agustin Rodriguez, president of ANR, who declined to disclose the identity of the buyer.

The transaction has yet to appear in property records online.

The home at on Bel Air Road is located in one of the country’s most exclusive neighborhoods.

"The two most expensive homes listed in the U.S., $250 million and $350 million respectively, are both in Bel Air and both front prestigious Bel Air Road," Mr. Rodriguez said.

Sitting on 0.68 acres of land overlooking the Stone Canyon Reservoir and with a view of the Pacific Ocean, the property has an European feel to it.

"It’s like something you’d see in Switzerland or Austria," said listing agent Ernie Carswell of Teles Properties, a subsidiary of Douglas Elliman.

The property was owned by Ms. Reese for over 30 years until 2014, when the developer purchased it for $7.5 million, public records show.

The former residence spanned 5,844 square feet, not including a 2,600-square-foot indoor swimming pool. As part of a multimillion-dollar makeover, ANR converted the swimming pool area into an expansive chef’s kitchen, family dining area and lounge.

The new mansion has a six-room master suite as well as six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a guest house, theater, gym/yoga studio, ocean view lounge, infinity-edge pool, outdoor dining pavilion, grill courtyard, motor court and parking garages.

Additional highlights include disappearing motorized sliding walls, wire-brushed oak floors and rough-hewn stone walls, which blend into the natural setting of the estate.

Rees Studio was the architect for the home and Masa Studio handled interior design.
