Meryl Streep’s longtime New York home — a red-brick Late Greek Revival-style townhouse at 19 West 12th St., in the heart of Greenwich Village — has dropped its asking price to $28.5 million from this February’s $35 million, according to Luxury Listings NYC.
An open house is scheduled Oct. 3 from 11:00AM to 12:30PM, according to the listing from Corcoran Group.
Built in 1845, the five-story, 25-foot-wide townhouse boasts several famous owners, including the three-time Oscar winner, who had it between 1995 and 2005, and Johnson and Johnson heiress Libet Johnson, who lived there for the two following years; current owner is countess and entrepreneur Elisabeth de Kergorlay, according to Luxury Listings NYC.
Per the listing, the residence has approximately 6,585 square feet, comprising six bedrooms and six-and-a-half bathrooms. The parlor floor includes a living room, bar area and a formal dining room opening to a terrace that overlooks a garden.
On the garden level is a caretaker's apartment with kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. The third floor has a bedroom with en-suite bathroom and a sitting area with study. The fourth floor has two additional bedrooms and a powder room in the hall.
The master suite, on the fifth floor, has a 450-square-foot Italian Calacatta marble bathroom spanning the width of the townhouse with a fireplace, iron cast bathtub and freestanding shower. The owner can invite guests to enjoy the city skyline views from the rooftop garden and use the basement as an extra storage and laundry room.
Ms. Streep snapped up this property in 1995 for $2.1 million, and sold it to Ms. Johnson for $9.1 million 10 years later. Ms. Johnson sold it in 2007 for $12.8 million, and Ms. de Kergorlay picked it up for $13.5 million in 2008, according to Luxury Listings NYC.
