Singapore Prices Rising at Their Fastest Pace in Eight Years Private home prices in Singapore rose 3.1% in the first quarter of the year, their fastest pace of growth since the second quarter of 2010. The private residential property index also increased for the quarter, rising 4.3 points up to 143. China Revisits Embattled Property Tax Plan in Efforts to Curb Market Chinese officials are renewing efforts to enact a new property tax that’s been opposed by wealthy homeowners for years, part of ongoing efforts to temper home prices and curb market speculation. Details on the tax are currently scarce, though it would likely protect lower-income homeowners and target high value properties. "Two years ago, everyone was discussing whether [the tax] would ever happen, but now it’s very clear that it will," said Chen Shen of China Securities in Shanghai. Financial Times

Dubai Developer Awards Dh1.3 Billion Contract for Yas Island Development Aldar Properties has awarded a Dh1.3 billion (US$354 million) contract to Trojan General Contractor for Water’s Edge, its forthcoming development on Yas Island. The complex will be made up of studios, one-bedrooms, two-bedrooms, and three-bedrooms, as well as a waterfront promenade and retail.
