As Hollywood’s finest prepare to walk the red carpet at the world famous Cannes Film Festival, which starts on May 11, we take a look at some of the luxurious mansions on offer in both the town itself and surrounding areas on the French Riviera. Experts predict that it may be a good time to consider an investment. The glamorous Côte d’Azur region, made famous by the likes of Brigitte Bardot in the sixties, witnessed the biggest drop in the average cost of a property of all of France’s key housing markets last year. However, prices could soon start rising again as a weak euro and low mortgage rates entice foreign buyers to plough money back into France’s second-home market. Cannes It’s not just the film festival that attracts the world’s rich and famous to Cannes, once a sleepy fishing village. A raft of superyachts are moored here during the height of the summer, with their passengers ready to strut along the Promenade de la Croisette, the place to be seen, on their way to the town’s plethora of Michelin-starred restaurants, 5-star hotels and designer stores. Antibes Located between Cannes and Nice, Antibes is a popular tourist destination in the summer months, with several sides to it. At one end, there is the beautiful old town, complete with a Picasso museum to mark the time the Spanish artist spent there. At the other end, there is Juan les Pins, which has a livelier beach club atmosphere. Like Cannes, the droves of tourists each summer mean there are good opportunities for those looking for rental investments in these two areas. Finally, at the super luxury end is Cap d’Antibes, home to the famous Hôtel du Cap-Eden Roc, which has played host to the Kennedys, Winston Churchill and was where Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton honeymooned. It still attracts many A-listers today, including Madonna. Here, there are many large, private and secure mansions hidden in the hills.

Menton The last town on the Riviera before you reach Italy, the “Pearl of France” may not be as famous as its glamorous neighbors, but it still has a lot going for it. It offers a more tranquil environment than the bustling towns of Cannes and Nice, has beautiful exotic gardens and an old town. Menton, which was the property of the princes of Monaco for several centuries, is also just 40 minutes away from Nice airport by car. As for property, there are a lot of Belle Époque-era mansions here that are cheaper than the other more well known and glamorous towns in the Côte d’Azur. There are also not as many international buyers in this market, which is another reason why prices aren’t as high as in other areas.
