Listing of the Day: A Home With a River in the Middle

The estate in British Columbia combines natural elements with modern technology

Save

Location:  Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada

Price:  C$13.25 million (about US$9.9 million) This modern house is hidden in the oak forests of Metchosin, a coastal community outside of Victoria. The house was designed by the renowned Canadian architect Marko Simcic. A guiding principal of his design was to respect and protect the surrounding environment. Construction of the home began in 2009 and took about four years to complete. The 10,700-square-foot main house consists of two narrow buildings connected by bridges. The Canyon River flows in between the two structures. The river also serves a purpose: it controls the temperature of the house through hydrothermal radiant energy, according to listing agent Scott Piercy of Engel & Völkers. The house has six bedrooms and eight bathrooms. There is a boathouse inside of the home with a track that connects it to the ocean. Boats can be driven up the track and into the boathouse for storage. The house sits on 67 acres with amenities that include tennis courts, basketball courts, a swimming pool and a hot tub. A separate house on the property can be used as guest or staff accommodations. Agents: Scott Piercy and James LeBlanc, Engel & Völkers Vancouver Island View the full listing.
