Back in the Victorian days, Tite Street in London’s Chelsea neighborhood was home to several famous residents, most notably, Dublin-born author Oscar Wilde, whose scandalous and not-so-secret activities played out at several addresses in the area.
A newly listed home on the famous block conceals something of an intriguing secret of its own behind its dormer windows. Though it looks slender from the outside, the house has a surprisingly voluminous floor plan.

The front door opens into a wide hallway and a large, ground-floor reception room at the front of the house, which leads to an open-plan kitchen and dining room at the rear, according to the listing.
Also on the first floor is the master bedroom with a large dressing room and en-suite bathroom with his-and-hers basins and a separate shower. There is also a study on the first floor.
The second floor has four double bedrooms, two of which are en suite. A large playroom/gym, utility room, cloakroom and wine cellar are found in the basement.
The property includes a garage behind the house as well as an additional off-street parking space.
"The off-road garage is truly a great feature," Ms. Askew said. "Parking in London can be a difficult commodity to acquire, so this is a major selling point."

Talking Points
Nowadays, Tite Street may not have the same broad-name recognition as some other famous London thoroughfares, such as Abbey Road or Baker Street, but beginning in the late 19th century, it housed more than a few artists.
According to the listing, Wilde purchased a permanent home for his wife and two sons here in 1884—he was also known to share a home on the street with artist Frank Miles, famous for his painting of a young Princess Victoria.

The listing also detailed other famous former residents of the street. American-born painter James Whistler built the famous White House on the street in 1877. Florence-born American artist John Singer Sargent, who was renowned for his portraits, moved to the street in 1900 and later expanded his home to create a light-filled studio. Welsh painter, draughtsman and etcher, August John (famed for his 1919 portrait of Lawrence of Arabia) made his home there between 1940 and 1958.
