Another swanky Los Angeles mansion hit the market on Wednesday for $8.9 million—but this one will raise your eyebrows for more than one reason.

Yes, the six-bedroom home, billed as contemporary Spanish-style, has impressive details, like a floating staircase, an indoor fountain courtyard and an alligator skin motif etched into the media room walls.

But the real allure of this property on Readcrest Drive might be its eclectic pedigree, with prior owners ranging from the creators of Alvin and the Chipmunks to the country’s most successful sex toy manufacturer.

The chief executive of erotic toy company Doc Johnson, known for inventions like the Pocket Rocket vibrator and molding adult novelties after the anatomy of popular porn stars, first bought the then-newly built home in 1991, according to property records.

Ron Braverman, who runs the company with his son Chad, as COO, paid developers $2.35 million for the gated white-stucco house in the "Post Office" neighborhood of Beverly Hills—a reference to the area at the edge of the posh zip code 90210.

The new-build offered Mr. Braverman views across the canyon, a private pool and spa in the backyard, a gated motor court and three-car garage as well as ample entertainment space, according to descriptions of the home.

The family owned the house for a little over a decade before selling it to a Hollywood honcho—"Seinfeld" producer Suzy Mamann-Greenberg for $3.55 million, according to property records.

During her short, four-year residence at the home, Ms. Mamann-Greenberg worked on ABC sitcom "It’s All Relative" and popular CBS series "How I Met Your Mother." The most recent owner—a buyer named Scott Weiss—bought it from Ms. Mamann-Greenberg in 2008, just a few months before she was made co-executive producer on the long-running hit sitcom starring Josh Radnor and Neil Patrick Harris.

Now Mr. Weiss is looking to hand over the baton on the property.

The owner completed updates on the home in 2013, according to a listing with Hylton & Hyland. The house has several "old world" stone fireplaces, including one in the master bedroom, a saltwater pool and spa in the backyard, arched windows and a luxurious soaking tub, according to the listing.

Mr. Weiss did not immediately return a request for comment.

Before the house was built in 1989, even the land underlying it had an interesting past.

Ross Bagdasarian, creator of "Alvin and the Chipmunks" and voice of Alvin, the singing ringleader rodent, and his wife, Janice Karman, owned the property in the 1980s before selling it to a developer for $530,000.

The property’s listing agent, Vanessa Sandin of Hilton & Hyland, did not immediately return requests for comment.
