A London townhouse that once belonged to Oscar-winning English actress Julie Andrews has just found a deep-pocketed tenant ready to splash out £35,000 (US$44,685) a week for the home, according to Knight Frank.

The weekly figure for the property in Chester Square in posh Belgravia is believed to be a record rent for the neighborhood, according to Tuesday’s news release from the brokerage, who managed the deal. Mansion Global could not confirm the record.

Built in 1835, the property was home to the "Mary Poppins" star and her late husband, "Pink Panther" director Blake Edwards, in the 1970s. The home was previously listed for £24 million (US$30.6 million), and is still on the market for an undisclosed amount, according to listing records.

During their tenure, the house hosted numerous celebrity parties attended by the likes of Peter Sellers, Herbert Lom and Omar Sharif, Knight Frank said in the news release.

Though some of the home’s period features remain—including the fireplaces and ornate ceiling coving—the white-stuccoed house has had some upgrades, having undergone a complete renovation at the hands of current owner, developer Saigol DDC.

Spread across over 7,000 square feet, the six-bedroom home now has a spa, a gym, a media room and large wine cellar. The house also has three terraces, an elevator and a double garage.

The demand in central London for super prime rentals has strengthened in recent weeks, according to Caroline Phillips, a partner from Knight Frank’s Belgravia office.

"However, tenants have high expectations given how much the luxury rental market has developed and properties need to be of the highest quality to attract the best tenants," Ms. Phillips said in the news release. "Chester Square is one of the most sought-after addresses in the capital, which only adds to the property’s desirability."

Other residents of the residential garden square have included Roman Abramovich, Nigella Lawson, Margaret Thatcher and Mick Jagger, according to the release.

A representative for Ms. Andrews, 82, declined to comment.

A second London property with ties to Ms. Andrews hit the market earlier this year for the first time in 50 years. The Victorian mansion in Wimbledon, home to the actress in the 1960s and 1970s, was asking £16 million (US$21.6 million). It has since sold, listing records show.
