The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has amassed 22 Top-40 hits across 23 studio albums, including his latest, "Sad Clowns & Hillbillies," released in April. It’s not clear how he’ll use his new co-op.

A publicist for Mr. Mellencamp did not return a request for comment.

The industrial loft on Grand Street in Soho spans 1,800 square feet with soaring 13-foot ceilings and has two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

The back of the apartment opens into a large workshop/office space with an adjacent lofted study, according to the listing with Greg Kim of Sequoia Property Group.

Mr. Kim declined to comment for this story.
