With its sandy beaches, rich cultural history and raucous nightlife, Barcelona is a destination for sun-worshippers and those looking to party until sunrise. This contemporary loft, set in the city’s Old Town, could be the ideal base from which to experience it all.

The apartment is located in El Born, a district that has grown popular with overseas buyers. With its narrow streets, stone buildings adorned with wrought-iron balconies and café-lined, leafy squares, the district is slightly off the beaten path.

Here, a former factory—built in the 1900s—was recently gutted and reconfigured to create four contemporary lofts, including this two-story apartment, which will span the first and second floors.

There will be no exposed brick walls or drafty single-pane windows. Instead, the loft will feature a minimalist design, with white walls reminiscent of an art gallery and pillar-free living spaces capped with high ceilings.

"It’s rare to find a building in Barcelona’s Old Town with scope to create something as contemporary as this development," said Joanna Papis, head of new development at Lucas Fox, the firm handling sales for the project. "Most are historic 17th and 18th century buildings and are subject to tight planning regulations."

The Stats

While an elevator will open directly into each loft in the building, this residence will have its own entrance at street level. Inside, there will be three bedrooms and four bathrooms.

Amenities

The living areas will be set on the second floor, with glass doors that open onto a terrace clad in green plants and vibrant climbing flowers. The terrace will overlook the swimming pool and vertical garden on the floor below.

The white stucco walls on the outdoor spaces, combined with the loft’s minimalist interiors, will give the property a Mediterranean feel. "The indoor-outdoor element of the design creates the feeling of being in a villa on a Greek island," Ms. Papis said.

Neighborhood Notes

One of the oldest neighborhoods in the city, El Born is home to the world-famous Picasso Museum and the Palau de la Música Catalana concert hall. The quarter is a short walk from the beach and is known for its trendy bars, shops and restaurants.
