If anyone knew that there’s no place like home, it was Judy Garland, who had some pretty grand ones to her name.
A beachfront home in Malibu, California, that was once home to the Hollywood icon, hit the market Tuesday with an asking price of $3.695 million.

Garland "lived there in the late 1940s and early 1950s," said Compass broker Russell Grether who shares the listing with colleague Tony Mark.
Mansion Global could not determine how much she paid for it then.
The 1,728-square-foot home was built in 1947, but in 2013, the house was completely redone, "from the studs up," Mr. Grether said, in a renovation that took around a year. "It feels like a brand-new house."
The Cape Cod-style property has three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, a wraparound wood deck, a chef's kitchen with marble countertops, vaulted ceilings, a private sundeck, wide-plank white oak floors and direct access to the beach, according to its listing.
Though the late actress and singer is plenty removed from the home, her name still adds a certain cachet. "Whatever the property, people like to know the history," Mr. Grether said. "I think it adds sprinkles on top."
But beyond the celebrity connection, its price point should help it sell thanks to a real shortage of beach houses under $4 million in Malibu, Mr. Grether said. The current owner, a retired doctor, bought the house in July 2016 for $3.35 million, property records show.

On the other side of the U.S., in Manhattan, a $10 million co-op in the Upper West Side’s famed Dakota building, that used to belong to the Garland went into contract last week, according to listing broker Katherine Gauthier of Douglas Elliman who shares the listing with Wilfredo Rivera.
Mansion Global could not determine when Garland, who died in 1969, owned the apartment or how much she paid.
The three-bedroom apartment in the Henry J. Hardenbergh-designed building is being sold by the estate of the late Jacqueline Bikoff—reportedly a former pianist, ballerina and Studio 54 fixture—who bought it in 2010 for $13 million, property records show. Bikoff’s daughter, designer Sasha Bikoff is responsible for the home’s interior.
The apartment, which was first listed in 2016 for $16.75 million, has 13-foot-high ceilings, a library, seven wood-burning fireplaces and "radiates the quintessential grandeur that has long defined this iconic cooperative building," reads the listing.
