Award-winning writer Stephen Rebello has put his Los Angeles home, believed to be a collaboration between Frank Lloyd Wright and his son Lloyd Wright, on the market for $1.35 million.

Mr. Rebello, best known for his nonfiction books "Reel Art" and "Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho"—which was adapted into the 2012 film "Hitchcock," starring Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren and Scarlett Johansson—bought the residence in 2001 for $615,000.

"Aside from the home's remarkable pedigree, I was immediately struck by the serenity and grace of the house and its magical, large yard—especially large for Los Angeles," Mr. Rebello said in an email.

While renovating the house, Mr. Rebello found out, through researches and exchanges with experts at Taliesin, the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, that it was actually designed in 1921 by the elder Wright and construction was overseen by his son Lloyd Wright.

The well-kept original details showcasing the Wrights’ architectural concepts include rare wood finishes and floors, art glass banded windows and many built-ins, Mr. Rebello said.

In addition, most of the light fixtures and furnishings in the home are authentic reproductions of Wright's work. "Although the 'look' is historically quite accurate, the 'feel' of the house is, again, timeless and anything but stuffy," Mr. Rebello said.

The architectural significance of this house also lies in the fact that its Prairie style is very rare in Southern California, according to Mike Dronge, a listing agent at Keller Williams who posted the listing Monday.

Sitting on 0.29 acres, the 1,859-square-foot home has three bedrooms, a living room and dining room, as well as an in-law suite converted from the original garage.

Mr. Rebello said he always loves reading in the spacious living room and relaxes on the porch off the master bedroom on the second floor. "It overlooks that majestic Chinese Elm and the magical backyard. I've slept on that porch many times on warm L.A. nights," he said.

Over the years, Mr. Rebello has created many lasting fond memories, hosting get-togethers, finishing his book manuscripts and screenplays, as well as getting calls from from book publishers and film producers and directors. "Hopefully, those will continue in the next home," Mr. Rebello said.

"Having always lived in historic homes since living in Los Angeles, my next home won't be a radical departure from that," he said.
