A historic townhouse in the tony Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, returned to the market Tuesday for $8.995 million, more than 40% off the original asking price about 21 months ago.

The 32-foot wide brownstone first hit the market with a price tag of $15 million in March 2016, when it became the most expensive house in the borough. The price was reduced to $12.75 million in September the same year, but it remained the priciest listing in Brooklyn, listing records show.

Dubbed the Remington House after James H. Remington, a Civil War veteran and an attorney who commissioned it, the townhouse was used as a multi-family residence until 2014, when current owners Jeanne and Joseph Accetta bought it for $3.8 million, property records show.

The couple, who has renovated and sold several historic townhouses in Brooklyn, embarked on a two-year renovation and transformed the townhouse into a quadraplex mansion, according to published reports.

They meticulously restored many original details designed by architect Charles Pierrepont Henry Gilbert in 1888, including 13 wood-burning fireplaces, staircases, coffered ceilings, moldings and mahogany inlay oak floors.

The home has eight bedrooms, four full bathrooms, four powder rooms, formal living and dining rooms, a library, storage and laundry room, according to the listing with Raymond Dillulio, Lisa Interdonato, Fredrik Eklund and John Gomes of Douglas Elliman.

Listing agents didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment on the price reduction, but said the townhouse was "now priced to sell" in the listing.

Its updated modern amenities include a security system, a new roof and mechanicals, plumbing and electric. The townhouse comes with a garden with cedar fencing and cypress trees, according to the listing.

The priciest listing in Park Slope now is another historic limestone mansion, listed for $14.5 million in October 2017, per records on Realtor.com.
