Hydronic radiant heating and cooling systems are considered to be more efficient than forced air units and often are used in commercial construction projects seeking zero-net energy consumption.
"It’s a new concept for Americans, but it has been used in Europe for a very long time," Ms. Freeman said.
"With hydronic cooling, it’s not a blast of cold air," she said. "The radiant cooling changes the temperature of all of the surfaces around you, so you feel cool."
The house is surrounded by old-growth oaks and redwoods, Ms. Freeman said. "They are gorgeous and stately."
