Showing off his fancy townhouse in an episode of HBO’s "Girls" has certainly paid off for the owner of a Brooklyn brownstone.

Actor Billy Morrissette, who appeared in the first season of "Girls,"  just sold his 5,600-square-foot townhouse in Brooklyn’s Fort Greene neighborhood for $5.237 million, according to city property records.

While this is slightly below the $5.6 million asking price, it still represents a hefty profit from the $1.34 million he paid for it in 2009. The new buyer is listed as SHERWOOD 52SOXFORD LLC.

When Mr. Morrisette, who’s also appeared in "Vegas Vacation" and "Pump Up the Volume," bought the home in 2009, it was a derelict single room occupancy building, the listing agent previously told Mansion Global.

He fully renovated the property, which is just half a block from Fort Greene Park, paying homage to its history with steel chandeliers. Other features of the house, which dates back to 1860, include a patio, garden and deck.

Mr. Morrisette’s  work certainly paid off, as the five-story, seven-bedroom house on Oxford Street soon caught the eye of TV producers and subsequently featured heavily in an episode of HBO’s "Girls" in which Lena Dunham’s character has a weekend-long date with a handsome doctor, played by actor Patrick Wilson.

"Girls," which is about to air its final season, is not the only TV show the house has appeared in. It has also played a part in an episode of Hulu’s "Difficult People" and in a commercial for "Saturday Night Live," as well as in a print advertisement for Ralph Lauren.

Amy Wendling of Douglas Elliman, who handled the sale, told Mansion Global that brownstones of this quality do not come on the market very often in Fort Greene and that the buyer, who could not be named, was planning to use the property as their home.

A spokesperson for Mr. Morrissette did not respond immediately to request for comment.
