An architectural masterpiece in Minneapolis, Minnesota, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in the 1950s, has hit the market for $3.4 million.

Situated on a private half acre on Burnham Boulevard, the Usonian-style house features a stone-and-wood exterior with aluminum window framing, an L-shaped layout with a dominant living room, as well as a floating cantilevered roof, Wright’s signature architectural detail.

The 2,511-square-foot house has three bedrooms and three full bathrooms, with views of the Cedar Lake.

Known as the Frieda and Henry J. Neils House after its original owners, who were distributors of stone and architectural materials and who worked in close collaboration with Wright on the project, the house is believed to be the only Wright home to feature marble walls, a deviation from the architect’s typical materials of brick and cypress.

Other unique designs of the house include its mechanical systems, which were all stored behind the fireplace, and its use of radiant floor heating, according to the description of the house when it was listed in National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

It took the Neils over a year to get an appointment with Wright, who finally agreed to take on the project after the Neils shared a set of photographs of the lot and its view of Cedar Lake, according to the landmark listing.

A spokesperson for the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation confirmed the house was designed by the prolific and renowned architect.

There have only been two owners of this home, which "has been meticulously maintained and cared for," according to the listing posted last week. Listing agents Julie Regan and Jeff Hornig of Lakes Sotheby’s International Realty weren’t immediately available for comment.

The current owner, who, per public records, bought the house in 2007 for $2.4 million, couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.

A few Wright-designed homes across the U.S. popped up in the market in the last year, when Wright would have turned to 150.

Tirranna, a house in New Canaan, Connecticut, designed by Wright in the 1950s was listed for $8 million in January 2017 and sold for $4.8 million in March 2018, public records show.

A Los Angeles home designed by Wright and his son and owned by "Hitchcock" screenwriter was offered for $1.35 million in February 2018, and sold within one week for $1.4 million.

Another private island in Putnam County, New York, with two buildings based on Frank Lloyd Wright plans has been on the market since July 2017 for $14.92 million.
