Former Zsa Zsa Gabor Estate to Hit Market Friday for $23.45M

The former estate of legendary actress Zsa Zsa Gabor will be reintroduced to the market on Friday for $23.45 million.

The current owner purchased the home for $10.4 million in 2016, according to listing records. Jade Mills of Coldwell Banker Global Luxury, the listing agent for the property, explained that the current owner purchased the home as an investment.

Property records show the home is connected to Albert Taban of Jade Enterprises, a real estate agency in Los Angeles. Mr. Taban did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The current owners contracted architectural firm Harrison Design to expand the property from a regency-style 8,878-square-foot mansion into a two-story, 24,020-square-foot behemoth.

The new home is expected to have seven bedrooms and 10 baths, a six-car garage, and covered loggias overlooking a private pool. "The spectacular views from Downtown L.A. to the Pacific Ocean have been revealed thanks to new landscaping," according to Ms. Mills. The property was initially overgrown, but the current owner landscaped the area to clear all inhibitory views.

The approval process to build a 24,000-square-foot home can take years, so besides being able to own a historic home, buyers now also have the rights to develop it as they please.

"Harrison Design drew up plans to provide the buyer with the freedom and flexibility to design their dream home in any style, from modern to traditional, within the approved footprint of 24,000 square feet," Ms. Mills said.

Depending on the wishes of the buyer, the old house, built in 1955, could be either up-sized and left intact or knocked down entirely.

Located on Bel Air Road, this Beverly Hills mansion has a bonafide backstory. The storied estate was featured in HBO's "Behind the Candelabra" (2013),  starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, and also in the Oscar-winning film "Argo" (2012), starring Ben Affleck.

Gabor purchased the home in 1973 and lived there for decades, famously hosting high-profile guests such as Queen Elizabeth, former U.S. presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, actress Elizabeth Taylor and crooner Frank Sinatra. It has been reported that Elvis Presley owned the mansion before Gabor, but this could not be confirmed by property documents.

Gabor, crowned Miss Hungary in 1936, died at the age of 99 in 2016. She appeared in many films, most notably, in the early 1950s,  "Moulin Rouge," "Lovely to Look At" and "We're Not Married!"
