Steven Theede, former chief executive of Russian conglomerate Yukos Oil, has listed his two-bedroom apartment in the iconic Plaza Hotel in Manhattan for $15 million.

Mr. Theede entered into contract to buy the property for over $8 million in January 2006, months before he resigned from his three-year stint at Yukos, property records show.

The apartment has approximately 2,225 square feet of living space, including two bedrooms, one full bath and two partial baths, a living room, a dining room, kitchen and bar, according to the listing with Sotheby’s International Realty posted Thursday.

Although it is relatively modest compared to newer, more luxurious Manhattan condos, what it lacks in size is made up for with its classic design by AD 100 designer Richard Keith Langham, its impressive views of the historic Grand Army Plaza and Central Park, as well as the status and amenities the Plaza Hotel offers.

The home features two grand columns, two fireplaces, custom onyx flooring, ceilings accentuated with gold leaf or lattice-work, plaster and crown moldings, picture rails, as well as upholstered walls, according to the listing.

Mr. Theede, 66, joined Yukos in 2003 as chief operating officer when the company had a market capitalization of $40 billion and was lauded for its Western-style corporate governance. But even before he became the CEO in June 2004, he had been thrust into battles to save the company, as it was charged for billions of dollars in back taxes, and its founder, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, was arrested.

Mr. Theede resigned from his post in August 2006. He went on to close the purchase of the Plaza Hotel apartment in October 2007, property records show.

Listing agents from Sotheby’s declined to comment. Mr. Theede couldn’t be immediately reached for comment.

The Plaza Hotel, built in 1907 in a French-Renaissance Chateau style, has 181 condominium apartments. A duplex penthouse in the building owned by fashion mogul Tommy Hilfiger, once asking $80 million in 2003, is currently on the market for $50 million.

The hotel amenities residents have access to include a private butler, nanny service, limousine service, in-room dining, gym and spa.

The Plaza Hotel has been recently sold to Katara Hospitality, a Qatari state-owned company, for $600 million.
