The great nephew of Walt Disney has just purchased a kooky beach house in Montecito, California, from Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt for $3.85 million, according to property records.

Producer and director Tim Disney bought the narrow beachside retreat from the Rock ’n’ Roll Hall of Famer shortly before Thanksgiving, records show.

Mr. Dirnt, 45, bought the home in 2011 for $3.5 million two years after it was built, according to records accessed through PropertyShark. He originally put the home on the market in March for nearly $1 million more than he sold it for, at $4.8 million, listing records show.

The industrial-looking beach home sticks out against its pristine neighbors. A steel-frame spiral staircase knits together three balconies, one on each level, topped off with a rounded ceiling.

Mr. Disney’s new home, spanning just under 1,200 square feet, has three bedrooms and three bathrooms.

The unusually arranged home opens from the street level into an open kitchen and living room on the third floor. The second floor also has a full kitchen and dining room, according to the listing.

In many ways, the house mimics a ship, including a retractable staircase, teak wood and bedroom with a loft height fit for a schooner.

Cathy Titus of Coldwell Banker Property Shoppe was the listing agent on the property.

Mr. Disney is the son of the late longtime senior Disney executive Roy E. Disney, who died in 2009. The younger Mr. Disney now serves as chairman of the Board of Trustees for California Institute of the Arts, which his great uncle helped found in the 1960s. He did not immediately return request for comment.

The Los Angeles Times first reported the sale.
