Location: Holyport, Berkshire, England

Price: £30 million (US$40 million)

Traditionally, the English countryside home is a Georgian Palladian mansion with neoclassical style in the form of imposing columns, perfectly poised architectural symmetry and row-after-row of windows. Yet, countryside estates in England can be much more, said Harford Manor property developer Richard Bellman.

"The key thing here was to use contemporary design, but to make it fit to purpose. To make it as a home," Mr. Bellman said of the sprawling turnkey estate, located just 27 miles outside London.

Effectively deconstructing the classic country estate with a modern architectural approach,  Harford Manor is a flexible living space.

Its clean, modern interior utilizes a muted tonal palette throughout that highlights unique design elements, such as an eye-catching geometric bookcase, a 1,000 bottle wine cellar with a triangular motif and glazed glass windows in the galleria that cast pops of bright color.

And although the home’s exterior retains the stately size of traditional country estates, its asymmetrical design featuring brick, metal and wood ensure it stands out.

Stats

The 23,500-square-foot residence stands on 40 acres of land and includes six bedrooms as well as six full and eight half-bathrooms.

Additional staff accommodations include three more bedrooms for a total of nine s throughout the residence.
