An entire London street and its 21 buildings are headed for auction later this month with a starting bid of £4 million (US$5.4 million).

Rheidol Mews, in the city’s affluent Islington neighborhood, has been in the same family for the past 78 years, according to the auction listing with property consultancy and auction house Allsop.

Mews—a row of buildings converted from stables—are common sights in London, which saw many built behind large city houses during the 17th and 18th centuries.

The cobblestone-lined Rheidol Mews is now home to workshops and offices, including an independent production company, a jeweler and an architect, but could be transformed into residential mews houses or as part of a mixed-use scheme, according to Allsop. In line with many of the neighboring properties, there is potential to add a floor to all of the buildings, the listing said.

The sale of the industrial brick buildings is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, according to George Walker, partner and auctioneer at Allsop, who said in a statement to Mansion Global that the auction, which will take place May 15, has attracted significant interest from both the U.K. and overseas.

"Potential buyers are likely to be interested in the possibility of obtaining planning permission to develop the buildings into highly desirable homes. We have no doubt that it will be incredibly sought-after on auction day," Mr. Walker said.

Homes & Property first reported the auction.
