Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Yu Darvish, who signed a six-year, $126 million deal with the baseball team earlier this year, just splashed out $4.55 million for a lakefront home in Evanston, Illinois.

Mr. Darvish, 31, who previously played for the Texas Rangers and the Los Angeles Dodgers, purchased the 5,400-square-foot residence and an adjoining lot through Darax LLC on May 15, according to property records and published reports.

The traditional two-story brick house includes six bedrooms, six bathrooms, formal living and dining rooms, a great room and kitchen. Built in 1904, the home features high ceilings and large windows to bring in natural light and lake views, according to the listing with @properties. It first hit the market last October for $4.2 million.

Outdoors, the 0.34-acre property has 150 feet of frontage on Lake Michigan, a boat/jet ski lift, a lakeside patio adjacent to the boat, a deck, a two-car garage and manicured perennial gardens.

Located just north of Chicago on the shores of Lake Michigan, Evanston boasts many historic homes on the tree-lined streets and beaches. It’s also home to Northwestern University.
