A signature piece by architect Cliff May, acclaimed for quintessential California ranch-style homes blending indoor and outdoor living, has come onto the market for $19.5 million.
The late architect took special pride in designing the 9,454-square-foot home in Montecito, California, often flying his personal plane from Los Angeles to oversee the work himself, according to Jill Reeder, listing agent of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage.
"He put a lot of his heart and special touches onto the property," Ms. Reeder said, noting that she acquired the knowledge while doing research for the listing, which was posted earlier this week.
Built in 1952, the residence originally had four bedrooms and four bathrooms in a Y shape. It’s been expanded and configured to seven bedrooms and 11 bathrooms on two separate parcels totalling 4.25 acres, according to Ms. Reeder.
"Now it is U-shaped with a gigantic oxygenated pool spanning the entire space from the master suite wing to the living room wing," Ms. Reeder said.
The property, with both ocean and mountain views, also features a separate guest house, a gym, a sport court, a six-car garage and orange orchards.
Current owner, Natalya Pavchinskya, founder of the luxury resort The Sanchayaon Bintan Island, Indonesia, purchased the home via a limited liability company in 2012 for $16.1 million, according to Ms. Reeder and property records.
Ms. Pavchinskya has decided to sell the property because her children are now in college, according to Ms. Reeder.
Ms. Pavchinskya wasn’t immediately available for comment.
