Just a half-hour from Oriole Park in Baltimore, Maryland, lies a peaceful 26-acre property intrinsically tied to the history of the city’s baseball team and the American pastime.

Owned by World Series winner and National Baseball Hall of Fame inductee Cal Ripken Jr., the estate has been both a home and training ground for its current owner.

"It’s a very, very special and spectacular property," said property agent Charlie Hatter of Monument Sotheby’s International Realty. "From a sports enthusiast perspective, it has every amenity … a baseball diamond, batting cage, indoor basketball court, training gym."

A track winding around a large, scenic pond was once even used by Mr. Ripken to train during the season, Mr. Hatter said. The sports memorabilia and trophies housed in Mr. Ripken’s long-term residence only further illustrate the acclaim and dedication of its current owner.

Yet, despite all the reminders of Mr. Ripken’s achievements and deep connection to sports, Mr. Hatter noted that the large home is not ostentatious. The residence forgoes the garish in favor of an inviting, warm and tasteful hominess. With acres and acres of bucolic land surrounding the home, the natural landscape only reinforces this sense of welcoming countryside living. "It’s horse country, so the land itself is spectacular," Mr. Hatter said, "It’s wooded, it has a big pond, it’s wide open grass…" Sometimes, the natural amenities provide just as much comfort as the man-made ones.

Stats

The approximately 26,000-square-foot home contains six-bedrooms, in addition to 10 full and five-partial bathrooms on a large 26-acre estate.

Mr. Ripken is considered one of Major League Baseball’s most iconic players. Nicknamed "The Iron Man" for playing in a record 2,632 consecutive games, he has attributed much of his success to the strong work ethic instilled in him by his father. That intense focus and work ethic paid off. In addition to his record streak, Mr. Ripken played 21 seasons for the Baltimore Orioles, was a 19-time All-Star, a two–time American League MVP, and also two-time Gold Glove award winner.

Amenities

In addition to the plethora of sports-related amenities, the property also boasts a large outdoor pool, five-car parking in an attached garage, a gourmet kitchen with a sizeable kitchen island, several walk-in closets, a steam shower, Jacuzzi bathtub and even an indoor movie theater with its own ticket booth.

Agent: Charlie Hatter, Monument Sotheby’s International Realty.
