A townhouse in Brooklyn’s upscale Park Slope neighborhood where former President Barack Obama lived in the 1980s hit the market for $4.295 million Thursday.

The three-story single-family residence, built in 1901, has retained most of its period designs with necessary renovations. "This home also has the unique distinction of being the residence of President Obama after he graduated Columbia University," according to the listing with Brown Harris Stevens.

Obama and his then-girlfriend rented a top-floor unit in the mid-1980s, wrote Pulitzer-winning journalist David Maraniss in "Barack Obama: The Story." Mr. Maraniss didn’t immediately respond to requests for more details about when and how long Obama lived there.

Email and phone messages left to the Obama Foundation weren’t promptly returned.

The 10-room residence has five bedrooms and three bathrooms, spanning 3,860 square feet. It also features four fireplaces and a private garden.

The townhouse has easy access to Prospect Park, Grand Army Plaza and shopping and dining amenities.

The current owners have owned the townhouse since 1994, public records show. They declined to comment through listing agents Alexis Kravitz and Charles Ruoff.
