Ashlawn Estate is a home where largesse rules. Visitors first gain access via a gate that is opened remotely and very, very slowly. Behind the gate are 118-acre grounds, with a polo farm/private airport.

"The polo field is a designated airport," which, when combined with adjacent acreage, creates a 1,200 feet area, large enough for a short takeoff and landing, said Josh McKinley, one of the three brokers representing the property at LIV Sotheby’s International Realty.  In the basement, there is a flight simulator.

Jeffrey Leeper, a financier, and his wife, Kim, commissioned Eric Smith, of Eric Smith Associates in Boulder, Colo., to build Ashlawn, which was completed in 2004. Mr. Leeper named the estate after a 19th Century  manor called Ashlawn in Brentwood, Tenn., which is connected to his family.

Mr. Smith, the architect, first built the 2,000 square-foot guest house, where the Leepers lived while the main, 13,000-square-foot house was being finished.

And in the design of the estate, nothing is on a small scale … especially when it comes to its horses. Ashlawn has 13 outdoor stalls, and 13 indoor stalls, as well as a pasture. During a polo match, there may be 50 to 100 horses involved.

Within the estate, the wine cellar holds 750 bottles.
