A landmarked manor with 100 acres of land in England’s bucolic Cotswolds region has hit the market for £11 million (US$14.8 million).

Avening Court, which was listed on May 2, has a Grade-II designation from the British government, meaning it is a site of special interest. The estate’s origins date back as far as the 11th century, according to the listing by Savills.

The manor is in good company, according to Crispin Holborow, deputy chairman of Savills Private Office. "The royal residences of Highgrove and Gatcombe Park, where attendance at the twice yearly Horse Trials is a must, is only a stone’s throw away," he said in a statement.

The estate is currently registered to a company based in Panama, which purchased the property in 1987, according to property records.

The architecture of the main house has been altered by past owners over the course of a millenium, and it exhibits rooms from various periods. The manor started as a nunnery, and still has a room from the Norman period (11th-14th century), which was incorporated into the main dining room.

It became a residence and went through a major rebuild in the 16th century, according to Historic England, a state-run preservation organization. The house had another large-scale renovation in the 19th century on its south and west sides. The newest part of the house, the west wing, was designed in the early 1900s.

In addition to the house’s eight bedrooms and six bathrooms, there are six areas for entertaining. The grandest is a ballroom that can accommodate 140 guests and a dance floor, and is equipped with French windows that look out onto the terrace and grounds. There is also a summer drawing room facing south, and a winter drawing room facing east.

The grounds themselves are a draw, Mr. Holborow said. In addition to "stunning gardens where extensive work has been undertaken," the water gardens are particularly noteworthy, he said. The property includes a lake and stream, as well as four cottages.
