Location: Amenia, New York

Price: $16.9 million

Musician Daryl Hall, of Hall & Oates fame, built the main residence at what is now called Fraser Ridge Farm by dismantling and moving two 18th-century homes originally located several miles from one another near Hartford, Connecticut.

The houses had each been built originally by captains of the Revolutionary War and were meticulously re-erected and restored on the current site by Mr. Hall in 2004. Historic and recreated materials were used to build a great room that would authentically connect these two late 18th century structures.

Mr. Hall sold his farm, which he called Flint Hill, to the current owners in 2013, who named it Fraser Ridge Farm, according to Claudia Jiskra of McGrath Realty. The property has since been expanded with the purchase of 200 additional acres in 2014. The grounds, now 423 acres in total, feature open meadows, rolling fields, lush, mature woodlands and sublime views.

Remote without being isolated, the farm lies less than two hours north of New York City and just 10 minutes by car from "all these great little towns of the Harlem Valley," as described by the home’s agent, Claudia Jiskra of McGrath Realty Inc., as well as from the Wassaic Metro North train stop. Amenia is a thriving town with the Silo Ridge Country Club currently under development and plenty of multi-million dollar houses going up in the area, according to Ms. Jiskra.

The farm is also a stone’s throw from the towns of Millbrook and Sharon in Connecticut, and Millerton and Pawling in New York.

Celebrity cachet

The great room—which was built by Mr. Hall using reclaimed materials to connect the two original and reconstructed 18th century structures—served as the backdrop of the TV show "Live from Daryl’s House," which started as a free monthly web show in late 2007. Among the performers featured were Smokey Robinson, The Doors’ Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek, Nick Lowe, K.T. Tunstall, and Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump.
