Location: Brisbane, Australia

Price: A$12 million (US$8.9 million)

The Edwardian gem known as Ruhamah has only had four owners since it was built in 1903.

The original owner of Ruhamah (a biblical word for "love")  was Irish-born biscuit and confectionery magnate Thomas Morrow, who started Arnott’s Biscuits, one of the main snack brands in Australia. Morrow lived in the house for 39 years at the beginning of the 20th century.

It is one of the largest landholdings on Brisbane’s sought-after, tree-lined enclave of Hamilton Hill, said Julie Vines of Queensland Sotheby’s International Realty.

"This property is unique in its size of land and as a standalone grand Queenslander, its appeal lies in its location and its heritage," said Ms. Vines.

Its current owners, who have lived in the home for 26 years, have carefully restored and maintained the house. To ensure quality and consistency throughout, they employed the same plumber, electrician, painter and gardener for their entire tenure, who would happily continue with the next owners, according to the listing.

In line with its Edwardian lineage, Ruhamah has extensive period features, including high pressed-metal ceilings, extravagant chandeliers, classic timber French doors and windows, and polished hardwood floors.

The renovated house has expansive spaces for entertaining, including a chef’s kitchen, two formal dining rooms and two living rooms.

The country kitchen features a "large marble island bench, a large butler’s pantry, gas hob and electric ovens," Ms. Vines said.

Outdoors, the park-like grounds feature established gardens, sprawling verandas, lush plantings, topiaries, and manicured hedges to create a sense of seclusion and privacy.

The Stats

The 775-square-meter (over 8,300-square-foot) house has six bedrooms, seven full bathrooms and a powder room. It is set on eight separate titles of land with a total size of 4,258 square meters (nearly 46,000 square feet).

Amenities

"The property has a large indoor pool house with a six-person spa and commercial kitchen and full bathroom," Ms. Vines said.

Other amenities include a billiards room with overhead lighting, spacious outdoor dining terrace with a Teppanyaki barbecue, and undercover parking for seven cars.

The floodlit championship tennis court is built on a suspended concrete slab at the rear of the home and is a short walk from the pool house. There is a 360,000-liter water tank with an ultra-modern, industrial-grade filtration system underneath the tennis court.

Neighborhood Notes

"Hamilton Hill is one of the most expensive suburbs in the whole of Brisbane," Ms. Vines said.

Brisbane's central business district is a short drive away, and Ruhamah is also close to both domestic and international airports.
