Location: Woodside, California

Price: $35 million for the entire property (or $27 million for the main house plus acreage, and $8 million for the guesthouse plus acreage)

Situated atop a private knoll in the heart of Silicon Valley, the Singingwood estate comprises 14.5 acres that border the 1,200-acre open space Jasper Ridge Preserve owned by Stanford University. The property’s main house includes a pool, a pool house, a spa, a garden house, a pair of two-car garages and a small stable. Nearby, a 1,500-square-foot guesthouse features an expansive patio and pastoral views.

Nature lovers are sure to marvel that this location is also quite close to the financial epicenter of Silicon Valley. "Local landscape artist Susan Ogle designed the magnificent gardens that enhance the privacy and tranquility of the site," said Carol MacCorkle, Luxury Property Specialist at Pacific Union International. "The home has wonderful areas for family enjoyment as well as a vast wine cellar that houses wines from a local vineyard, which you pass by when driving to the property." (Wines are not included in the sale.)

When the current owner bought the property in 1996, it already had its name. Ms. MacCorckle said he thinks it’s likely because "the woods sing when the wind blows through the many trees on the property."

Ms. MacCorkle added that the 1,500 square-foot guesthouse (which has its own separate address) could be the potential site for a new house because it is considered an "auxiliary structure" by the town of Woodside. "It should be possible to build a 6,000 square-foot house on this six-acre plot, subject to Woodside approval," she said.

"Interested parties have included young, active tech people, or people looking for a private retreat," she said.

Stats

Set on about 8.4 acres, the main estate home has 10,171 square feet of living space with five bedrooms, five full bathrooms and two half bathrooms as well as an outdoor shower and a separate Jacuzzi. The 1,500-square-foot guesthouse, which rests on a six-acre plot, has two bedrooms that are connected by a large full bathroom.

Amenities

Security gates serve each entrance to the property and the main home consists of four levels, all of which are accessible by elevator.

The spacious kitchen features a Thermador gas range and oven, a Sub-Zero refrigerator and a Miele dishwasher. The master suite includes a sitting area with a fireplace, French doors that open to a balcony, a bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub and shower and two generous walk-in closets. The grounds have a scenic viewing area with a fountain, a rustic picnic area by a creek, extensive walking paths and horse trails.

Talking point

"The charming, elegant, spacious rooms of the main house make it perfect for gracious entertaining and special events," Ms. MacCorkle said. "Wu Han, the artistic director of New York Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society and founder of Music@Menlo with her husband, cellist David Finckel, has performed piano concerts here. It has also served as a venue for Silicon Valley corporate gatherings, charity events and school functions."
