Location: Southampton, New York Price: $15.9 million

Aside from having deeded access to a private ocean beach a few doors away, this 1.9-acre property in Southampton, New York, backs up to preserved parkland offering quiet and privacy with long and lovely views.

Located within the historic Murray Compound in the village of Southampton, the 6,500-square-foot home was built in 2006 and designed by local architect John Laffey.

"After tearing down the original structure, the owners built a new home in the classic Southampton shingled style but with modern amenities and current building standards," said Pat Petrillo at Sotheby’s International Realty.

The current owners moved (into another house on the property) in 2001 and have enjoyed summering there for the past 17 years, according to Ms. Petrillo. They decided to sell the property and "start a new chapter of their life as children are grown and needs have changed," Ms. Petrillo said.

There are five bedrooms, including a master with a fireplace and private deck that has views of the scenic Wickapogue Pond.

"The master bedroom deck is the owners’ special place where they can unwind and enjoy the long vistas to Wickapogue Pond," Ms. Petrillo said.

The Southampton home also features a living room with a fireplace and glass doors to the west deck, a formal dining room with a fireplace, a mahogany-paneled library with a fireplace and an eat-in kitchen with custom-made cabinetry, commercial grade appliances and stone counters, along with a screened-in porch next to the kitchen that overlooks the gardens and a pool.

"The beautifully proportioned rooms with 10-foot ceilings are elegant and inviting," Ms. Petrillo said. "The screened porch is an ideal place to dine and entertain overlooking the expansive lawn and pool," she said.

Outside the main house is a heated gunite pool with a 55-foot swim lane surrounded by a brick patio, with a pergola-covered lounge area at one end.
