In the 1920s, the first generation of Hollywood stars flocked to Santa Monica to build their mansions. Norma Talmadge, one of the biggest stars of the silent era, had this particular beachfront home built for her in 1928.

The Spanish Colonial Revival-style home has sweeping views of Santa Monica Bay, and was recently redesigned by Molori Design to take advantage of an extra-wide lot. There were renovations to the bathrooms, kitchen, entryway, exterior garden and pool areas; details include a copper bathtub and intricate fountain tiling.

Two master suites come equipped with fireplaces and dressing rooms, and there are multiple guest suites. A path leads to the beach from the swimming pool, where there’s a fire pit to take maximum advantage of Los Angeles’s year-round temperate weather.

“The location offers an urban lifestyle most people don’t get to live in Los Angeles,” says listing agent David Solomon of The Agency. “You have an enormous house right on the beach. Park your car and there’s a bridge a block away that goes over the Pacific Coast Highway to world-class dining, a farmer’s market, a movie theater and more. With the new public bike system in Santa Monica you can bike to Venice or Malibu in less than 15 minutes.”

Located on one of Los Angeles’s premier beachfront stretches, the iconic Santa Monica Pier and downtown Santa Monica are just a few minutes away.

The Stats

The 6,130-square-foot home has seven bedrooms and six bathrooms. According to Solomon, the property has 45 feet of ocean frontage — an unusually high amount for that particular stretch of shoreline.

Amenities

Because the home is designed for entertaining guests, the amenities were also designed for large groups. There’s an outdoor shower near the swimming pool, a fire pit for late night bonfires, and a backyard fence that opens onto the sand.

Neighborhood Notes

Located just off the scenic Pacific Coast Highway, a thriving downtown is a quick walk, bike, or car ride away. Downtown Santa Monica is accessible via a pedestrian bridge, where beachfront homes are a favorite among the entertainment and tech industries.

The historic Fairmont Miramar Hotel, the Third Street Pedestrian Promenade, and a host of nightlife hotspots are all nearby.
