Listing of the Day

Location: London, United Kingdom

Price: £3.5 million (US$4.6 million)

This former two-story Victorian has been completely reconfigured behind its stately facade to create a modern four-story home with a stylish backyard garden.

The 1870s house is on Ashchurch Grove, an attractive tree-lined street in the Shepherd’s Bush area of West London.

"It has extra-big windows throughout, like all of the houses on Ashchurch Grove," said listing agent Teresa Brewer.

During the extensive renovation and modernization, which wrapped up two months ago, the house was excavated to create a lower level underneath its first floor. "It was a massive amount of work," Ms. Brewer said.

"Now there is a fantastic lower ground floor with a guest suite, utility room, a plant room and a media/games room," she said.

The five-bedroom house has an open-floor plan and lots of natural light, due to those large windows and generous ceiling heights throughout.

"It has a west-facing garden and a lovely studio/office at the end of the garden," Ms. Brewer said. "It’s great if you work from home or for teenagers."

"When you walk into the house, you can see right through to the garden," she added.

The renovation brought underfloor heating throughout, and now all of the bedrooms have built-in cupboards. A new kitchen was also added, with a large island, Miele integrated appliances, a 110-bottle capacity wine refrigerator and wall-width Crittall sliding doors out to the garden.

"The kitchen/breakfast room runs the full width of the back of the house," Ms. Brewer said. "It’s a smooth transition from the kitchen out to the garden."
