Design Pedigree
MOD Construction collaborated with Dubai-based design firm Ask Deco to create this modern home that’s flooded with natural light. A 200-square-foot skylight creates an enormous atrium in the center of the home while a glass-paned floor ensures that all that great light makes its way through all three floors, including the basement level.
Amenities
The atrium in the center of the home is naturally airy, but its most striking feature is the custom glass elevator. So many times, residential elevators are rather unglamorous. "This one is a total show piece on display," Mr. Salm said. According to Karl Spektor, of the firm MOD Construction, it was inspired by the scene in "Scarface" where Tony meets Elvira for the first time. The glass elevator takes you from the media room, sauna and steam room, and wine cellar on the lower level right to the top floor, where you can climb up to a large rooftop deck.

Neighborhood Notes
The Gold Coast has been a stately residential neighborhood, with its mansions, row houses, and luxury apartments along tree-lined streets, since the late 1800s. Today, it is something like Chicago’s answer to New York’s Upper East Side. Even nestled into this quiet opulence, the home is really in the heart of the best area for entertainment in the city, "steps from the Viceroy Hotel, which is being built," Mr. Salm said.
