Location: Paris, France

Price: €17.5 million (US$18.5 million)

The leafy, wide boulevards of Paris’s arguably most chic arrondissement—the 16th—are some of the most sought after in the city among the wealthy and stylish Chanel-wearing classes.

And this is a suitably glamorous, unusually large duplex apartment in a private mansion that dates back to the 1900s, with gold leaf covered ceilings, located just off Avenue Henri-Martin and a 10-minute drive to the Eiffel Tower.

The first level has a double living room that opens onto a terrace, and a dining room that opens onto a patio with a retractable roof. Five bedrooms—each en-suite—are on the top floor.

Stats

The two story apartment is 510 square meters (or 5,489 square feet), large for a property in the city. It also has an unusually large amount of outdoor space: 30 square meters (323 square feet), plus patio.

Design Pedigree

Like many of the magnificent historic buildings and mansions in the most desirable parts of the French capital, the mansion this apartment sits in dates from the 1900s. It maintains a period feel, with extremely tall seven-meter-high ceilings, a grand sweeping staircase, marble-clad bathrooms and polished original parquet flooring.

The existing owner renovated the property a few years ago and, according to agent Clare Drean of Barnes International, the standard and quality of the interiors and materials used is exceptional. The ceiling is covered in gold leaf, while the doors are silver leaf. The library is paneled in original dark wood, but bathrooms offer more modernity, with large mosaic-tiled rain showers. There are slick minimalist units in the fully-equipped kitchen.

Amenities

The apartment comes with two parking spaces within the building (often Paris properties have parking located separately) and a private elevator that also goes down to the garage. Its most attractive aspect, however, is its triple reception room, said Ms. Drean, which is very rare in Paris, as well as its unusually large terrace at 30 square meters.

Neighborhood notes

The apartment is located between Porte Dauphine and Trocadéro in the 16th district, just off Avenue Henri-Martin. Often likened to London’s Kensington and Chelsea, or Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the 16th arrondissement is where you’ll find Paris’s high society. This apartment is being sold by a French family, but the area is increasingly popular among international buyers, too,  particularly from the United States, Russia and the Middle East.

The property is also close to Paris’s second largest park, the 2,000-acre Bois de Boulogne, which is two-and-a-half times the size of New York’s Central Park. Here you can watch horse racing at  Hippodrome de Longchamp and the Auteuil Hippodrome or international tennis during Roland Garros, also known as the French Open.
