Price: £12.5 million (US$16,283,750)

Location: London, U.K.

It’s not outside the realm of possibility that this penthouse has the best view of any residential property in London.

Practically touching distance from Tower Bridge, on the edge of the Thames, The High Command, as it’s called, is at the top of the historic Anchor Brewhouse, formerly the Courage Brewery, and was designed to "picture frame" the British icon through floor-to-ceiling glazing the width of both the seventh and eighth floors.

Many other icons, including St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Shard and the Gherkin, are on display from the penthouse’s four floors and five terraces.

In fact, one of the biggest draws of this apartment is the abundance of outside space, at an "almost unheard of" 2,000 square feet, according to listing agent James Hyman of Cluttons LLP Tower Bridge. Most river apartments in London are on the south side of the river, which means they do not get much light and sun on balconies and terraces. High Command has terraces located on both sides of the property.

"Anybody with in excess of £10 million (US$12.9 million) to spend, who wants river aspect and a Central London location, would not be able to find another apartment that offers better views," Mr. Hyman said.

Stats

Set over 4,280 square feet, the penthouse has four bedrooms and three full bathrooms plus five separate outdoor "entertaining and viewing" terraces.

Amenities

The building has its own internal private lift between the seventh and 10th floors, as well as two separate staircases. Anchor Brewhouse, the development, has 24-hour porterage and secure car parking. The High Command is allocated four spaces.

Design pedigree

The building is seen as a landmark within the area, a true historic conversion carried out 28 years ago as part of the regeneration of the now up-market Shad Thames area. The penthouse apartment perches atop the warehouse, with a "wonderful, rich array of original character," Mr. Hyman said. "Unlike a lot of other warehouses, this doesn’t have any light restrictions so you get the best of both worlds—double-height ceiling, floor-to-ceiling glass, as well as the original brickwork and iron columns."

Most unusual are the 10th and 11th floors, set in a rotunda with a gallery, gazebo and terrace offering 360-degree views of London just for the owner.

Neighborhood notes

For Thames-lovers there are few better places to watch the river traffic on one of the busiest stretches of waterway in the city, with tall boats and cruise liners moving back and forth, and army boats mooring up next to HMS Belfast.

It’s a busy part of the city, but up above the buzz, you feel private and secluded, said Mr Hyman.

Shad Thames has popular shops, restaurants and bars and is convenient for the South Bank and its theaters, Tower Hill and Blackfriars tube stations as well as London City Airport.

This part of the capital is becoming increasingly popular with international buyers, especially with the marketing of the new neighbouring development, Number 1 Tower Bridge, where one-bedroom flats are selling from £1.457 million (US$1.89 million).
