Listing of the Day

Location: Verbier, Switzerland

Price: CHF8.95 million (US$9.2 million)

If the slopes are calling, this sprawling mountain chalet may have your name written all over it. The home is laid out in grand alpine style, from the light oak accents to the stone-surround fireplace. It is pristine down to the last design detail, not forgetting its location, said listing agent Alex Koch de Gooreynd of Knight Frank.

"This traditional-style chalet is perfectly located on the south-facing hillside of Verbier at nearly 1,800 meters (roughly 6,000 feet) with stunning panoramic views," Mr. Koch de Gooreynd said. "It was carefully designed to maximize the mountain views and direct sunlight."

Its roomy interior and prime location are perfect for the family on the go, which is what the current owners built it for in 2004. They wanted a "family retreat, so the design allows for a secluded parental suite on the top floor, providing suitable privacy away from the children's rooms two floors below. As is very common in this popular resort, the owners are based in Geneva and use the chalet [as a second home] to take advantage of the healthy lifestyle and remarkably sunny weather all year round," he added.

The Stats

With approximately 3,280 square feet of living space, there’s plenty of room for the whole family. Spread out amongst three stories are four bedrooms, four full bathrooms, and a two-car garage.

Amenities

Enter through a formal hallway on the ground floor, where there’s also a dedicated ski room for storing all your outdoor equipment. On the second floor, three bedrooms feature a private terrace, and also on the floor, a luxurious steam room for warming up right off the slopes. The main living quarters are also on the second floor: a grand salon and living room with floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, a wraparound terrace with a Jacuzzi and barbecue, a kitchen, a wine cellar, and a dining room. Up a floating oak staircase, the third floor houses the master suite and en-suite bathroom.

Neighborhood Notes

The snow-capped village of Verbier is the headlining resort of Switzerland’s largest ski area, the 4 Vallées (or 4 Valleys). "Built on the Sonalon hillside, the house is located within the finest area of the resort. With regular buses running into the resort center, this location is renowned for affording the finest views with the nearest slopes just minutes away," Mr. Koch de Gooreynd said.

It’s a ritzy place of Michelin-star restaurants, exclusive lounges, and a cache of celebrity clientele. But with all of that, it has the snow and vertical climb to match. Its highest peak, Mont Fort, scales nearly 3,330 meters (around 10,000 feet) and is at times open year-round for snow sports. "The resort is a truly dual-season location with an extended ski season due to the altitude and a packed summer season of events," Mr. Koch de Gooreynd said. Verbier is a crowning example of the exquisite outdoor pursuits and jaw-dropping beauty.
