Location: Amagansett, New York

Price: $5.995 million

Come summer Fridays in New York City, a mass exodus of suit-and-tie types and pantsuiters hit Interstate 495, en route to greener pastures. As evidenced by this brand-new build in Amagansett, the grass is certainly greener there.

"This home is a really special place," said listing agent Rick Slater of Sotheby’s International Realty. "It’s serene and tranquil, a beautiful site right on the water. It would be a unique place for a writer or an artist, or someone who wants a getaway, a peaceful sanctuary to go to."

Butting up against where the Atlantic Ocean meets land, it’s just a few steps to paddleboarding in open water, or to go clamming for dinner, or to sit still on the beach and watch the day slip by. This perfect piece of Hamptons property is the ideal antidote to city life.

The Stats

With nearly 1,850 square feet of interior space, this bi-level home has just one bedroom with one master bath and a separate half bath. A wraparound deck circles the exterior of the home, while the "entire back wall of the home opens up to the elements," explained Mr. Slater, adding that "a completely custom screen" protects the space. The home sits on nearly a half-acre of waterfront land.

Amenities

"The home was designated to be incredibly light and bright, but also to exceed all standards, post-Sandy," Mr. Slater noted, referring to the hurricane that hit the Northeast United States in 2012.

In terms of structure, it’s built on 12-inch pilings with 8-inch exterior walls and all engineered lumber. The windows and doors are imported from Poland, the 10-inch antique oak floors are reclaimed, and the black brick featured throughout the home comes from post-war Piccadilly, London.

There are three fireplaces, one on the exterior porch, another in the living room, and the last one resides in the master suite. In the master bath, Michelangelo Marble runs nearly all the way up, with white shiplap finishing the space. In the kitchen, all-natural Pietra Cardosa stone counters offset custom white cabinetry, a Traulsen refrigerator, and a 36" La Cornue stove.

Neighborhood Notes

"It’s the perfect location," explained Mr. Slater, noting that "it’s just a stone’s throw to the ocean. You can walk to the bay, and it’s between two towns, Montauk being just seven miles out. It’s close to all the summer hotspots."
