Location: Mykonos, Greece

Price: 11.7 million euros (US$12.76 million)

Set up high at the end of a small peninsula, sandwiched between Paradise Bay and Super Paradise Beach, with views across the stunningly blue Aegean sea, you may as well be on your own private island, said Natalie Leontaraki, of Greece Sotheby’s International Realty about this property.

This is one of the reasons celebrities and royal families, with their children, bodyguards and nannies in tow, love to holiday on the "Chateau estate," made up of four buildings, 17 bedrooms and 18 bathrooms.

Stats

Located on 10,000 square meters (107,000 square feet) are four buildings that include eight guest houses. The main residence, at 360 square meters (3,875 square feet), has six bedrooms and seven bathrooms. The large guest house, of 300 square meters (3,229 square feet) has a further five. The rest of the bedrooms are spread out across 500 square meters of accommodation in two small guest houses and space underneath the main residence.

Design pedigree

The design of the buildings, constructed in 2004, reflects "cool, calm and chic contemporary Mykonian living," Ms. Leontaraki said, with thick whitewashed walls, shuttered windows and tiled floors which keep it comfortable even on the hottest days.

The properties, owned by a fund management group, were designed to use as much material from Mykonos as possible and the exposed rocky walls, taken from local mountains, give the bedrooms a "cave-like" feeling. Rocks are also used to keep the swimming pool at the main house sheltered, since Mykonos is known as a windy island. Secret lighting in the rocks, along with candles lit on a hot evening, makes it "super romantic," Ms. Leontaraki said.

Every room has a window with a sea view, which makes you feel as if you are floating on the sea in an enormous, very comfortable, boat.

Amenities

There are two pools, one attached to the main residence and the other to the largest guest house, and a big al fresco dining area for barbecues. In some ways the estate is like a hotel, with its own professional standard chef’s kitchen for gourmet lunches and dinners in the sunshine. There’s a chapel on site, too, plenty of parking, and one of the reasons so many celebrities are attracted to the estate—a helipad so you can make a discreet entrance and exit.

Neighborhood notes

Chateau estate is in Pirgi, a popular, cosmopolitan and high-end vacation destination in Mykonos. One of the best things about the estate, Ms. Leontaraki said, is that it is totally private but still so close to some of Mykonos’s most happening spots and famous bars, including JackieO’, a beach club and restaurant at Super Paradise Beach.

"The helipad makes it really unique," she said. "People who live on this estate have their own privacy but it’s between two very famous beaches where all the clubs are. You’ve got isolation but you’re close to everything."
